OK, so it's one of the 10 or so defaults that Blogger provides but I thought it was time for a new look on this blog. Maybe it will inspire me to write more often.
So while I'm here, here's a silly haiku:
Cookie dough to sell.
No trans fat I do proclaim.
Little League does well.

Dropping a Ball
Blogging has fallen by the wayside a bit. Between work, kids and exercise, something had to give and blogging has been it. Combine that with a decided lack of inspiration of things to blog about and you've got a precipitous drop in posting.
Every so often, I'll have an idea and a half-formed post in my mind but it seems to evaporate in the night and lose out to the siren call of my bedtime.
I've got to get my blogging mojo back. When it returns, the posts shall too.
In the meantime, I'm working and running and swimming and biking and practicing aikido and cooking and chasing after my three guys. Life is good.

A Year of Blogging
There have been slow months and blog-intensive months. Months when I had a lot to say and those where I didn't. Weeks when I wanted to blog and the time just got away from me. Weeks when I couldn't think of two sentences to string together.
Still, I can't believe that it's been a whole year already. Time does fly by.

Just Keep Breathing
When I started this blog, the title was all about trying to keep going while keeping all the different aspects of my life in line and going forward at the same time. I think the words 'Just keep breathing.' an awful lot - while running, in aikido, in the pool, on my bike, when on the brink of losing my temper with two squabbling kids, when stuck in traffic, you get the idea.
The idea, of course, being that as long as I kept breathing, kept trying to stay calm, stay collected, stay focused, everything else would seem like not such a big deal.
In
and
out.
I still like it. It still applies.

Still Going
When I started this blog about a month ago, I didn't know how long I would last. Sure, there were some thoughts rolling around in my head, mostly inspired by the blogs that I'd been reading (see right sidebar) but beyond that? I didn't know if it would be a passing fad and that once I'd run out of stuff to say, I'd just call it quits.
Still here. Still have things to blog about. Didn't know I'd be talking about running and aikido so much. I'm not sure if I'd be called a mommy blogger. I am a mommy and I do blog but I don't blog mainly about my kids. It's this hodgepodge of ideas that bounce around while I'm driving to and from work, that simmer while dinner is on the stove and gel when I'm just about to drop off to sleep. I had some illusions of serving up insightful comments on the world around me.
Perhaps they will still come.

Why Blog?
M thinks it's strange that I want to blog. I mean, why put up stuff for (potentially) the whole world to see? Why not just write in a journal?
Why indeed?
I guess there's this part of me that blogging calls to. The part that loved English and Creative Writing in school, that jumped at the latest writing assignment. The part that wanted to be a journalist at age 12 but never got to be one. The part that loves to read and appreciates a well-turned phrase. The part that has been dormant for the past I don't know how long while I've been writing only things with scientific content. Oh, and let's face it, blogging appeals to the little exhibitionist in me that wants to scream 'Look at me! Look at me!'.
I've read that there are people who write just because it's part of who they are, because it's as natural as breathing. Those people write whether or not someone reads their work. I agree. It's fun to write and to see my words on the screen and to imagine that somewhere out there, someone else may be reading and enjoying what I've written. Does a blog that no one else but me reads still exist? Of course it does!
